Win 8.1 Desktop Login - How to Change?

May 5, 2015 10:49AM PDT

I recently purchased an HP AIO desktop running Win 8.1 64-bit. During setup I overlooked login options, which default to a Microsoft Account PW. I don't want this level of dependence on MS and would like to revert to login being strictly local. After reading several online articles on how to charge to a local login, they all require creating a new account and this requires reprising all of the system settings I created. Is there another way out of this dilemma that doesn't require a creating a new account? If not, I will accept being foolish and falling victim to Redmond. Thanks for your support.

Bob,

I tried Option #2 previously, but the settings were changed. Also, a new user name was required which makes sense. That said, it appears that I need to create a temporary account with admin privileges; login to that account, delete the MS Live account. It's reasonable that the MS Live account is present, since it wasn't removed.

Option #1 seems to be a variant of Option #2. Thanks for your support.
