General discussion

Win 7 Pro and Office components

Sep 3, 2010 7:50PM PDT

New computer has OS of Win 7 Pro.
Notice in the 'All Programs' bar under MS Office:-

MS Office 60 Day Trial Online
Access/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook/Publisher/Word (all Office 2007)
Office Tools.

What happens after 60 days? Assemblies

If I have to uninstall,
what exactly do I uninstall?

In Control Pnl/Uninstall its doesn't list
Word/Outlook/PowerPt etc it does list:-

MS Office Web Components 2003
MS " 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
" " Sm Business Connectivity Components
" " Suite Activation Assistant

And if you know - is there an advantage to MS
to make the two lists so very different (and confusing)?

After 60 days
Sep 3, 2010 9:20PM PDT

After 60 days you can read documents, spreadsheets, etc, but not make any changes. Much of the functionality of Office is disabled.

Uninstall should be available in the Control Panel > "Programs and Features" listing.

Sorry but I can't say about the two listings or Assemblies.

Hi Mark,
As I mentioned in OP, the Uninstall section does not
list the MS programs. It lists groupings as shown in OP

You Can Safely Uninstall All Items Listed As ...
Sep 4, 2010 9:43AM PDT

......MS Office 2007....Including the Office Web Components 2003 which is compatible with Office 2007 and is included with some versions. Personally, I would leave the Web Components installed as it shouldn't cause an issue with any future versions of Office you might install. (The Web Components and other items you've listed can be reinstalled from the web if you need them later.) Assuming you don't have another version of Office on the computer, then all the items listed can be removed..MS Office 2007, etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi Grif, thanks.
alas it's not clear to me really.
eg I use hotmail and had to d/load a program
to allow hotamil set up. So I don't want to
uninstall then find I can't get my mail.

When I uninstall say CCleaner then I goto
Control/Uninstall/ and there is CCleaner listed
just as it is in All Programs menu. So it's straight-forward.

This confusion has, & will again, got MS into trouble
with anti competetive practice. If MS was open & transparent
I would be able to install whatever individual program
I wanted & not be a prisoner to MS bundling.
eg I do not like/support/or want on my computer
Win Messenger - yet I can't delete just that.
