win 7 incompatible with lacie hd

I am running Win 7 on my HP computer. I got a Lacie Rugged XL backup drive which is not recognized at all by Win 7. This drive works normally with Win XP. This indicates the problem is with my Win 7 os, not with the drive itself. Does anybody know of a fix fro this problem?

Usually it's the backup software.

Since I use such as an external drive it's never a problem. Lacie would have to issue you some replacement app.

I have reformatted the drive using Win XP on my notebook. System indicated this action was successful. Drive still not recognized by Win 7.

If the drive is not showing in disk management you may find other drives won't work with this machine. So far there is nothing in your post that would have me other more clues such as drivers or such. That is, no make, model or story about this machine.

The drive is a Lacie Rugged XL, 1TB, product #301840U, s/n 1278905040447F. Reformatted for NTSF. Works with Win XP but not Win 7.
At this point I am lost. Can you tell me what specific info you require?

But as it stands I know very little about the machine that does not work. While I've seen this happen on a Windows 7 machine, it was not the drive at fault. It was the tech that forgot some drivers. Another case it was some CD Emulator. So far if the drive works in XP, it works on 7.

The drivers for these drives are built into Windows 7.

Just a thought. I fixed one last week. The owner had been tinkering with services and had stopped the plug and play service.

Lacie claims that as well, that the Rugged XL should work with my os. Is it possible these drivers are somehow missing from my copy of Win 7? If this is the case, where can I obtain them?
Lacie appears to be losing interest in assisting with this problem; perhaps they think I will eventually just go away.
I have not been tinkering with anything. I know enough about computers to realize that I don't know enough to tinker.

I've seen malware and system optimizers create this issue.

Here these things work if the machine is in stock form. Nothing in your posts reveals what else to check and there are NO DRIVERS to be downloaded. You will find folk hunting for them but there are none to be found.

Unfortunately, the only other computer to which I have access is the malfunctioning HP Mini 110-1030ca.
I cannot believe I am having this continuing difficulty. I greatly appreciate you assistance. I still believe that the drive is defective in failing to function with Win 7. Of course, Lacie will not admit their product could be deficient.
Should I investigate 'Then Please Try This" ?
This drive was previously formatted for Mackintosh os. If the Win XP computer was malfunctioning, could the reformat to NTFS have failed, even though the drive was recognized?

I am afraid to 'tinker' with my desktop since I am medium, not expert on computers. My previous one, a Dell Dimension, cost me $250 tech fee to NOT solve the problem. Had to junk it for this HP.

That's tough on me to read. Ouch.

It's been over a decade but our shop had the no fix, no charge policy. It cost us a few times but folk came back even after a no fix. I thought it to be a fair policy but today I wonder how the current generation of "I want it now" folk would take this?

About the Lacie. So far I can't find one that doesn't work because of Windows 7. I have found machines with missing drivers, disconnected ports but nothing that was a 7+Lacie cause.

I believe the problem was the initial use with a mackintosh computer. My only other is an HP notebook which is malfunctioning.

You claim it was reformatted but when I move a drive from Apple to PC I have to delete the partitions, create a new partition and then format it.

Having seen folk struggle with preparing drives properly and having seen Lacie drives work with both Apple and Windows 7 it's likely just a mis-step in the setup or there is some issue with this UNKNOWN WINDOWS 7 PC.

I see HP but missed out on which one and who installed Windows 7.

Actually lacie hs given up on my problem ("sorry for the inconvenience. goodbye".). Perhaps the mac formatting has rendered this drive inoperable, although it was listed in win xp before my mini netbook croaked. My only option is to somehow try formatting on a different computer, This possibility is unlikely.
I have given up on this drive. Thanx for the assistance.

Nobody else has suggested I have to partition this drive before formatting it. I have had several responses to my original email. In fact, Lacie has not suggested I need to partition the drive; they should know, I think.

if it is recognized by WIN 7. This has made me curious since I have a Lacie DVD+/- RW and planning to buy at some later date, WIN 7 Home Premium. I have updated it to 4 G ram and 160 GB HD on a DELL Optiplex Ultra Smal Form Factor Computer and it has only a CD-Rom. Lacie is external. Darrell

It list as only good for WinXP, Vista and mac only. Check out what it says as to what it is compatible with by clicking on your 1 TB. Darrell

MS windows 7 website has stated clearly Lacie Rugged XL 1TB drive is 'not compatible' with their operating system. I assumed this meant that Lacie was responsible for updating their drivers.

I should not have to disconnect AC power. Win 7 was operating when I powered on the Lacie drive. Since Win XP recognized this drive, incompatibility with Win 7 appears to be the problem. Of the thousands of HP Pavillion computers sold, it is unlikely that this one would be defective towards this one external drive.
