Question

Win 7 Connects to local network ok, but No Internet Access

Sep 4, 2017 7:47AM PDT

Hi, yes I've tried pretty much every solution i could find this is my last option to get the problem fixed.

So I get the yellow triangle on the internet bars, then it says No internet access. I have A Local Area Connection enabled (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) and Wireless Network Connection both enabled. Signal Strength is strong and works on every other device.

When I use ipconfig/ all in cmd it comes up with this:

C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig/all

Answer
That looks OK for NTL ISP.

194.168.4.100 seems like a good DNS but there are other reasons for this to happen. The most common reason I run into are expired anti-virus suites and date/time is too far off in PC or router.

What you posted should have worked. Compare this DNS to a working machine then let's see your Speccy report. I usually want the Web Speccy but in this case you'll have to share the text. Messy but should show which AV and what else.

To be honest dude I have no idea what I'm doing, I'm kinda a noob when it comes to networks.

It may not be a network issue.

The report looks fine so I suspect an outdated antivirus. The Speccy would tell me which you use and then I can check if they block the internet when it expires. many do and I find that unhelpful to users since they usually don't pop up and explain why the internet was blocked.

Couldn't publish the Speccy but here's the text one

It shows your antivirus is "disabled" and Windows Defender being active. Can you tell about that "disabled"? Did you ever install another antivirus and not remove it?

I find line 5140/5151 strange, but maybe Bob can explain?
- It says the Realtek controller is disabled
- It says the IP address of the WiFi is IP Address 169.254.106.180 (which is different from what ipconfig says: 192.168.0.89(Preferred)

Nah dude, I've had mircosoft essentials installed + malwarebytes but other than that, I haven't removed anything.

I was wondering what the (preferred) bit meant anyways because I've never changed anything to do with my ip address. It weird that they are different though.

Tbh I was thinking about doing a system wipe and starting from the beginning, but I'm not sure if that's actually going to change anything.

It doesn't seem to be a hardware failure, so going back to factory conditions should fix it, assuming it worked when you bought the PC/laptop.

Answer
Top post and Speccy disagree.
Sep 4, 2017 3:18PM PDT

IP Address 169.254.106.180 in speccy which is that self assigned address which doesn't match
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.89(Preferred) which was in your top post.

There are many reasons for this such as just a little too far from the router.

I don't see any note about distance to router.

Is there anyway to reset it, I'm thinking of doing a complete system wipe and reinstalling windows, but fear that it may not solve the problem.
