Win 7 can't see partition/s

Oct 27, 2009 5:47AM PDT

Hi
I'm installing the full copy on the partition. that previously held the RC, which I formatted but when I select to install there, Win 7 install just constantly says it can't create or locate a system partition suitable for installation. Given this is absolutely the ONLY partition I want to install it on, I'd dearly like to figure out its problem. I've tried everything from deleting the partition entirely and letting Win 7 create one, through using Partition Master in XP to create one and setting it as the Primary Active - all to no avail. Even when the partition shows itself as "System" I still get this error msg and it's doing my head in. I didn't have these problems when installing the RC and lost as to what's happening now to prevent me installing the full version. Hoping someone here can give me some input before I give up entirely and/or go and buy myself another HDD to install it onto which I'd truly prefer to not have to do. Thanks Romayne

It worked on my Partitioned Drive with no issues...(once I was able to get it going). Wink

Installation issues

Hmm - wonder if it might have anything to do with the fact that I have 3 drives and 8 partitions with XP on my C drive, but it's not actually the primary OS as I have to keep hitting F11 to select it each time - the previous Win 7 RC disk (where I'm now trying to install the full version) is seemingly the primary partition for booting, yet it just refuses to accept that partition for anything. I think I might just unhook the other 2 drives in the morning and see if I can get it installed then - might throw some of my drive letters up the left perhaps but at least I'd get it going. Thanks anyway.

Sorted!

Managed to sort the problem out quite simply - suddenly remembered that when I'd installed the RC copy I'd disconnected the other 2 drives so as not to make the mistake of installing it on the wrong one, so did that again this morning, and bingo - installed perfectly. Looks like Win 7 is particularly fussy about where it puts itself when you want a dual boot system. Thanks for the help anyway.
