No. It will boot and let you partition, but to use it proper you let the installer do the formatting. At the right time it will ask for the old Windows 98 CD as proof of the upgrade rights.

The format issue.

A great way to trip up a Windows 2000 (XP too) install is to format before you boot that CD. Just use the CD's installer and you can partition and let it format it. NOWHERE do you format the drive. The installer does it.

If you wish to format it some other way, just go ahead but don't complain to me about it.

As to the upgrade CD, all it will do differently is to ask to see that other OS cd...

As you may have already guessed I am by no means a cumputer genius, and I am just guessing that the installer you keep refering to is on the upgrade disk as well? and all I have to do is insert the disk and follow the instuctions from there to remove the patition(RIGHT)...

About the only varience you can expect is when it asks for the old CD.

After this, just like in any other Windows OS, after it's all done you get to find and install drivers for the motherboard, USB, LAN, video, sound and what have you. Microsoft doesn't do that for us.
