Win 2000-new video card-new drivers?

Nov 30, 2004 1:46AM PST

This morning I changed the video card that came with the machine (very basic)and put in my ATI All-In-Wonder Pro. I did not install any new drivers because it sounded like I could use the video driver that came with Win2000. Now did I uninstall the old drivers. I booted up, everything did as it was supposed to do, albeit a very bad picture and then when I moved the mouse, it froze. I rebooted and nothing. I reinstalled the old card and everything is ok again. Now, before putting the newer card back in, should I delete the old drivers? If that is done, won't the screen be black before I can install the new drivers? Can someone please walk me through this. Also, please know your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If this was me, I'd use the instructions that ATI provides.

Why would I do anything else?

I hve no instructions, that is why I came here. The ATi was taken out of another computer. I have now downloaded the newest ATI driver, but I need to know the steps with which I should install it as spelled out in my first post. Do I delete the old graphic cards drivers prior to installing the new driver? Before I have installed the new driver, but without the old driver, will I be able to see anything on the monitor? That is what has my worried. Before everything just went black.
