Win 10 15055 start menu and Cortana

Mar 12, 2017 7:09AM PDT

Previously, in another post, with build 15031, I was having this same issue. I thought it was fixed, but it came back. Here is the issue:
Windows 10 Home Creators Update Insider Preview Build 15055 start menu and more giving me trouble. PLEASE HELP.
I know, you are probably going to say it's a Beta and it is a bug, but I am telling you, most bugs can be fixed by some CMD command or PowerShell or even in Regedit. Please tell me any way to fix this, even if it is advanced.

So, I upgraded successfully from Windows 10 Home Anniversary Update to build 15031, then it was fixed by doing chkdsk f r x, but after upgrading to 15055, I have been experiencing Start menu difficulties again. For example, when I click the Start button, sometimes it will do nothing, so I will click it again, and it will open the Start menu, but it will just be blank. On the other hand, sometimes, it will open up to the normal Start menu, but I can only scroll about an eighth down my apps list before it freezes and I have to wait about two minutes for it to respond. And sometimes, it will load normally, and work fine, but then the next time, it will give me trouble again.

Searching: it often lags and sometimes doesn't even register my typing, but when the results do come up, and I click an item to open it, it never works.

Cortana: Cortana usually lags and every once and a while doesn't do anything. Action Center: usually is fine, although sometimes it lags, but I don't think that has to do with all the other nonsense.

Login sometimes lags when I click the screen to login, but I don't know if that has to do with the nonsense either. And one more thing: my PC sometimes gets into "slow-mode" out of the clear blue sometimes, and the cursor will lag, which just MIGHT have to do with the other stuff.

Note: my PC is an almost brand new desktop PC made in 2016, with a Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA GTX-something graphics card. Note 2: I have already tried the DISM health restore powershell, which resulted in an error that I can't remember, and I have also tried the Foreach command, which said no violations. I also tried the Start menu troubleshooter which said everything was fine, and I rebooted into safe mode then back into standard, and it still is giving me trouble. I also tried sfc /scannow in Powershell and it is still doing it.
Whatever your suggestions/fixes are, no I will not reset my PC or reinstall Windows. So avoid resetting and reinstalling Windows.

AND PLEASE Don't tell me to post it in the Feedback Hub, I already have, and my post has been ignored. I'd just like a fix.

And one more thing

I don't know how to edit the post, so I am posting it as a comment:
In Action Center (when it does open), sometimes will tell me to finish installing device software. But when I open Device Manager, nothing seems wrong!

Not a sure fix

But one of my first things to do given these symptoms is to run CHKDSK /F on all drives. Which you did but would try that again.

The feedback hub here is for forum issues not tech discussions so it might languish there as few check that area regularly.

I see a preview version so problems may not be solvable here but let's try a few things.
1. Repeat the CHKDSK / F on all drives.
2. Create a new local user account and see if the issue follows. If it doesn't then you have to throw a fit as the fix is pretty awful. Complain to Microsoft.

MS

I don't really want to dive right into MS tech support this soon, as there has to be something else I can do. I don't want to give up this fast.
QUESTION: Is this just me? Or is this something popular? Did my PC download a corrupt update or something?

No it's not just you.

I have seen it, and the CHKDSK and new local account did fix it for them but the client SCREAMED BLOODY MURDER that no one could fix the dinged up broke account.

For that I have no cure and send them back to MS.

As to lags during typing, another NOT A MICROSOFT ISSUE TO FIX found the HDD was on its way out. The test we use is to clone the drive to a good one and re-test. This is costly as we charge 150 for the hour labor. Most folk just replace the drive rather than pay extra for the test to prove it. THAT IS, I rarely find HDD tests to reveal this issue but we know about it and watch for the signs.

Results

I did the chkdsk, and it still is doing it. I also created a local account named test, and it had the same results. It doesn't seem to be what you are saying. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have a hunch that this has to do with device drivers probably because of the message in action center.
I'd like some help.

Have You Checked The Comp Manufacturer's Website For...
Mar 12, 2017 5:13PM PDT

...updated BIOS and chipset/motherboard drivers? If not at the computer manufacturer's website, then find the device manufacturer in Device Manager and visit the various device manufacturer's for updated drivers.

One other thought comes to mind, we have seen a few issues fixed when there were faulty USB devices plugged into the computer. If you have USB devices plugged in, then unplug and try again. That INCLUDES USB mice and keyboards. Try using the old style PS2 plugins for those items.

And although you said you created the local account, you didn't say you tried putting the machine through it's paces WHILE IN THE NEW ACCOUNT. Assuming you actually did have problems with the same issue while in the new account.....

....as was said earlier, that's the problem with running beta stuff. Sorry.

And if none of this fixes it, then it's time to let the problem get fixed by Microsoft.

Hope this helps.
