Will you be installing Windows Vista on your system?

Feb 1, 2006 8:32AM PST

Will you be installing Windows Vista on your system this year?

Yes, as soon as the final version is released.
I'm already on the beta version. (How do you like it?)
After it's been out for a few months. (How long will you wait?)
No way! (Why not?)
I will buy a new system with it already installed.
I don't even have XP yet!
I'm on a Mac and will never go to the dark side.
Don't know yet.

The Penguin Rules!

Why bother with expensive, buggy Microsoft OS upgrades when you can have a much more stable Linux OS distribution, such as Ubuntu, for free?

Tux and Ubuntu GNU/Linux rules ?.
Feb 14, 2006 11:59PM PST

Got to admit just now going to install SuSE Linux 10 on a spare hard disc just to try it and see what its like. But have a thought that will still find Ubuntu the best Linux distro for me,the hardware initialisation has been faultless its quick and quite easy to make the transition from Windows.

The Penguin rules,Tux is a pet.

Whatever OS is preferred good luck all,Chris

Please share your comparison fo the 2 distros
Feb 15, 2006 11:38AM PST

I have used various versions of Debian GNU Linux, Mandrake, Red Hat, and SuSE Linux. I'm presently using Novell SuSE Linux 10.0. I'm very curious to hear your impression of SuSE vs. Ubuntu, after you've had some time to do a fair real-use comparison.

Thanks!!

Waiting for Ubuntu,Dapper Drake release, due soon.

Cant really do a comparison with Ubuntu and SuSE GNU/Linuxes since the magazine DVD was faulty and woudnt run past initial boot.So making enquiries with the Mag re replacing the DVD.

But a friend had the latest version of Mandriva free and since that also runs the KDE desktop like SuSE installed that and run for a few days.

To compare Mandriva and Ubuntu is abit unfair because its a very short time and any difficulty with Mandriva leads onto a preference for Ubuntu which i know fairly well.Thats unfair to Mandriva, there is a learning curve for all OS's and i would need to spend as much time with Mandriva as i have with Ubuntu.

I found the comparison of KDE desktop (Mandriva) interesting with the Gnome desktop (Ubuntu).Mandriva and KDE certainly has everything i am likely to need on a computer and a good bit more on top.I was unable to find a shortfall.

I will stay with Ubuntu though.I like the simplicity of the Gnome desktop and the OS settings and initialisation have been spot on and has been with all hardware updates as well.Ubuntu runs fast to which is usefull with this P3 1Gig cpu.Mandriva and KDE where slower.Ubuntu also has it all except a default firewall which i install as an addition.

So ime simply waiting and looking forward to the next Ubuntu release which is called Dapper Drake, another pet alongside Tux i think. The Penguin and the Duck will rule.Ubuntu=Linux for Human beings.

As well though some of the senior managers at my work ask me sometimes about Linux.I would think probally to put them onto SuSE or Mandriva GNU/Linux as a potential against the new Microsoft Vista. Its horses for courses.

Best Wishes to you all whatever OS is preferred,Chris.

Installing Windows Vista, No Way!
Feb 19, 2006 8:40PM PST

I plan not to install windows Vista because my version of Xp works fine and i wouldn't want to mess up a working system, when most of the features in Windows Vista i wouldn't use. Plus i plan on getting the new 17in imac with the core dueo.

Mar 14, 2006 9:21PM PST

I will only install vista only after a year, by that time most of the bugs will be fixed.
