Will work done from a personal flash drive leave any traces?

Dec 5, 2007 2:25AM PST

I use the small USB drives for various projects and save information, pictures, etc. If it is plugged into a work computer will any data, pictures, etc. be stored on the work computer that would show non-work related activity? Basically, during non-peak times I could work on some other things but I don't want it reflected on a work computer.

Thanks for any help.

Yes. Here's what we use when we discover...

If we suspect excessive work computer use for non-work we install this -> http://www.keyghost.com/ We also have other methods as well as logging IP traffic and more.

With all the things that a good IT staffer has at their disposal why would anyone risk their job over this?

Policy
Dec 5, 2007 9:00PM PST

The mere fact you're asking this ? suggests the co. has a policy or may ask what the heck is going on. To remove yourself from such thought, use a flash drive for work and another for play. Either way, a flash drive is seen as yet another storage device on the system/server. Alot depends on how the IT dept. polices its realm, so be careful. In plain English, the co. expects you to work not play when using co. resources. Sad

Most work computers have a type of remote viewing software such as VNC to allow administrators/bosses to see exactly what you are doing.

How can I remove all traces of flash drives from my PC?
Jul 8, 2012 2:51PM PDT

My company has a policy not to allow use of pen drives. But we are forced to use at times. How can I remove all traces of pen drives from my computer? Mere deleting drives will not help I think.

Sorry but in the workplace, you only need to know that a good IT staffer can overcome anything you can dream up.

I heard that K7 anti-virus can help.

I heard that K7 Anti virus has an option to clean the registry entries. Is it true?

No.

Because we are talking about a workplace, such things are under their control and not yours.
