Will Wireless speaker(etc) work for my application?

Dec 6, 2004 3:54AM PST

Hi, I have a computer and a nice set of speakers to go with it but I want music throughout my room as well as around me while I'm at my desk.

I was looking to a wireless transmitter and speakers for my 12x13 ft office, but I don't want to spend the $ is wireless speakers suck, I'd rather just try a wired solution.

I was looking to sony for this just cause I heard good reviews and they are pretty stlyish...

So I guess my main questions are, is wireless any good, or is there a much less, $ wise, wired solution that will give my more sound quailty and bang for the buck?

Depends on how picky your ears are...

whether or not wireless is adequate, and it also highly depends upon the application of the technology! Let me first state that I have thousands of dollars in a sound system, but I am very happy using RCA wireless (bought at Radio Shack) for outdoor background music when we have barbeques and lots of guests. I would never try to use them for main speakers or even surround speakers on the main unit (to eliminate wiring), but for background music they are just fine! But I am someone with a 12" subwoofer and main speakers with 12" woofers, too...so puny 5" speakers cannot hope to equate!

12X13 room is not that big but if you are lookin for a wireless solution there are a myriad of approaches that can help you achieve some kind of result. Questions you need to answer are how much sound do you want? Are you streaming audio from your computer or just a stand alone receiver?
Are you planning on using the current speakers you posses or are you purchasing more speakers? If you are getting more speakers, do you have enough outlets to support a remote application?

There are a number of wireless devices that you can network to your computer that will allow you to stream audio from your PC through out your home using WiFi. It is a little complex though. If you simply want to move the speakers you have across the room, use a simple 2.4GHz RF wireless A/V unit. If you have a stereo or decent radio in the room and you want to listen to the audio output of your computer on that, try a FM transmitter like the Belkin iPOD Tunecast II FM Transmitter Digital w/DC Jack - F8V3080 $30 at BUY.com
if you want deeper bass without digging deep in your pockets, you may want to go with a small speaker set up like the Single-Point Surround-Sound Speaker System at radio shack fo $99.

Not sure which way you want to go but there are several ways to get there, I'm sure.

Wireless systems

Hey,

you guys seem like you know a little about this so if you have any advice on the following, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking to get a Home theatre system in a box and noticed they have some that are wireless. Is this too good to be true? I mean, am I sacrificing quality in order to have the convenience of wireless? Again thanks in advance for any thoughts
