Question

Will my ISP know?

Apr 5, 2016 12:40PM PDT

I'm selling my Samsung Phone so....kinda paronoid....so....

I have a few questions:

I have come to find out that my ISP provider will know which wifi I have connected to (in the future) if I access a public WiFi location such as mcdonalds/tim hortons.

So....

my question is

1- If I go to mcdonald's and connect to their wifi (my home ISP will know that) but if I browse porn there, will my ISP (home WiFi) know WHAT I'm browsing at a public WiFi?
I know that mcdonald's ISP will know what im browsing but will my home ISP know what I browsed at a public WiFi? Yes or No?

(for example if I open up porn at mcdonalds, will my home's service provider know? even though I'm under mcdonald's wifi?)

Second....

2- If I reset my phone and then connect to a public wifi (Will my home ISP know that I connected to mcdonald's WiFi?) and would he still know what I browsed?

I'm selling my phone and I'm just worried that if I send it to the person (after resetting it) and let's say if they browse child pornography at a public WiFi will i get in trouble? since the phone originally belonged to me and it has my ISP Home's wifi stored in it?

Thank you.

1. No, your home ISP will not know what you do on other WiFi-locations.
2. No also.

In fact, your phone doesn't know what the ISP connected to the router you connect to via WiFI. It only knows the routers, nothing deeper in the network. Your home ISP isn't stored on the phone.
