Resolved Question

Will my audio lag if I use a bluetooth headset with my TV?

Aug 22, 2013 7:18AM PDT

I have been using an wireless RF headphones connected to my home theater system. Recently my dog ate it and am looking for a replacement. I've been considering a Bluetooth transmitter connected to my home theater system paired with a Bluetooth headset. But I have heard that this set up will give a lag between video and audio (something to do with the codec?). Is there a Bluetooth solution where I can avoid lag or should I just stick to RF headphones?

Lag

The audio lag ranges from minimal to annoying, but it is almost always evident. Even the most minimal lag will ruin the viewing experience.

Stick with RF headphones for TV viewing.

It's minimal but is there.

The problem is simply the audio must be digitized (there's so little lag in this step but let's get it all out on the table) then sent over in packets, checked and possibly resent. The data rate is low enough that there is lag and any retry will be disastrous.

So the answer is not clear if you will notice it.
