Resolved Question

Will MS Office Pro 2000 for Windows 98SE work in Windows XP?

Aug 7, 2011 6:04AM PDT

MS Office 2000 Professional came with my old Gateway which ran on Win 98SE. Now have a Dell that came installed with Win XP and MS Office 2000 (no disks).

I miss some features from the Office Pro version on the Gateway. Will my Office Pro 2000 that ran under Win 98SE work under Win XP on the Dell?

If yes, then do I need to first uninstall the Office version that came on the Dell?

Should be fine.

And yes, I've learned to uninstall newer versions before installing the old version.

Thanks for your input, Bob. Will give it a try.
If it does go haywire, is there a way to retrieve the installed version that came with the Dell?

That would be on the restore to factory feature or media.

I can't answer if Dell offered a restore just the app. This was the days of XP and such things were never standardized.

The image software I use is Clonezilla.

The only complaint folk have is the time to backup.

Thanks for all your input. Hadn't thought of cloning or imaging disk first. (Duh! moment.) Great suggestions.
