Question

Will GTX 760 run well enough with Core 2 Quad Q9550?

Sep 19, 2017 12:02PM PDT

Hello guys.I have an old PC,my current specs are:

Core 2 Duo E7400 2.80 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT 512MB
4 GB DDR2 Ram

In the coming days a friend of mine is gonna give me GTX 760 Windforce 2GB,and also i'm gonna use Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 with it.My question is how much of a bottleneck will there be? Will it run good? Also in comparision with my old specs how much of a boost this will be? Will i be able to play new-ish games? Like maybe GTA V or Fallout 4? Don't really care about high quality,if it's low and it's perfectly playable i don't mind. I know the 4GB Ram will be problematic but oh well, can't upgrade in the near future.

Thanks a lot!

The gtx should give you a large bump in video power.
Get the proper drivers for your machine and test.

Good move.

While it's a nice bump I have a few thoughts. The GPU is matched to the CPU in era/time. Be sure your power supply is beefy for this move.

Beefy enough. Why?

I see a single +12V rail which will keep you out of trouble.

That's good right?

I have no idea what that means since i'm such a pro haha, but that's good aye?

It's all good.

Split rails are trouble for beginners. Yours has the single rail so that's good.

Make sure your mobo supports that new cpu.

It does.

Yeah,no worries there,it's a 775 socket and it is compatible Happy

Compatible

The socket type is a start.
Now check compatibility at the mobo maker's site.
