Thanks for the links which I am trying. The computer boots, goes through checking for errors (because the computer wasn't shut down properly) goes to the desktop which shows the screensaver but nothing else. Even the little windows button on the keyboard won't bring anything up. Thanks for responding and for the links.

Hi,
You need to reinstall Internet Explorer.
Something went wrong with your Internet Explorer.

wpwhra,

You have a virus that has corrupted Explorer.exe and IE6. Have a very convoluted recovery...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293174

Use: Method 2: Restore Internet Explorer
The line for shell=program.exe... use shell=winfile.exe

(While in Winfile (Win3x windows explorer) re-edit system .ini to default.)

Boot to safe mode and run the following scans
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&messageID=15002
If you can get to safe mode just run the scans

Thanks. I'm going to your first link now. I worked all day on that computer yesterday and was ready to throw it on the junk pile by the end of the day. Thanks again!

The problem is fixed and I want to thank all who have helped me. I had to reformat. What a mess for a know-nothing computer geek-wannabe. I had to reinstall both Windows 95 and 98. Needless to say, I am very upset with Norton AntiVirus 2004 (with daily updates) for allowing such an attack into my computer. They are right up there with HP for shoddy products. I now have a working computer that I'm afraid to take on the internet as I'm not about to reinstall Norton's. Thanks for letting me vent but a huge thanks to those who have helped me.

www.free-av.com...free antivirus

www.grisoft.com AVG antivirus, free, is changing, version 6 not supported after Dec.
Some use Avast, a behavior antivirus instead of signature.

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
