Will AVG 8 free replace Comodo as firewall

Using win xp home, sp3, auto updates. Linksys router for hardware firewall.

I googled this question and did not find an answer.

I have been using Comodo free firewall and find it too bothersome. Keeps popping up too much. I click OK, with REMEMBER this checked and the next time it will give me another popup on same thing!

I tried to play a music cd that I bought and got a several pop ups on that. Never got the music cd to play.

I had been using AVG 7.5 until today. A friend told me that AVG 8 free, included a firewall and he had uninstalled Comodo without any problems, relying on AVG 8 to be his firewall.

I installed AVG 8 free today and do not see that it is supposed to act as a firewall.... as mentioned in 2nd line, I googled this question and did not find an answer.

SO, do I need Comodo, or can I uninstall it and have AVG 8 as my software firewall?

If I still need a different software firewall, any suggestions for something better than Comodo?

Thanks

Ben

AVG 8 Free is NO firewall...

You will still need one... Comodo or something else. AVG 8 is a good anti-virus, anti-malware software. I use the new version and like it.

Sorry, I missed the last sentence...

and request. As for me I have always been partial to ZoneAlarm Free. Used it for years with no issues and still would but it does not work well on my Vista machine.

If you try it you can rid yourself of most of the annoying pop-ups in its settings. A diligent search of their website for free version may be needed... they push the paid products.

Good luck!

on the options screen you can specify what type of program it is.. trusted ones are allowed more flexability and are able to run things easyer.

There should be a drop down box when that happens.. and if you set that it should reduce the # of popups to run things ALOT.

Hope that helps

"I tried to play a music cd"...A SONY CD By Chance? :D

In reply to: Will AVG 8 free replace Comodo as firewall

Previously, Sony CDs by about 85 artists tried to install Sony's OWN version of Copy Guard/Prevention,and it TRASHED many machines. If your CD had this included (or similar) then be very thankful that Comodo prevented it installing. Protectors SHOULD rightly prevent/flag install of program .exe files from a Music CD (where such should not be reasonably expected). With "Media Files" being such a major source of Malware these days...... Just a heads up! Happy

Thanks to all.

I am getting the hang of Comodo, will see how it shakes out.

Hope I don't allow the wrong thing.

Thanks again.
