a lot more than just a dead pixel.
A dead pixel would only give you a single spot of light, or dark, and not a vertical line.
Get on the phone to Apple and report this now. Do NOT delay. This is covered by the warranty.
As long as you report this within the warranty period, they will fix it. Do not tell them that you can live with it.
When you call in, make sure you get an incident number. That is the number that will prove the problem occurred while the machine was under warranty.
Let us know how you get on.
We have a 17" iMac that has a couple of months left on its 3 year warranty. A couple of days ago it developed a thin vertical colored line on the screen. A techie friend said it's a dead pixel. We didn't do anything (bump it, clean it, etc) that caused it--it just happened when we turned it on one evening. Does anyone know if this covered by the warranty? We don't want to lug it to an Apple store only to be told it will cost hundreds to fix. We can live with it, in that case!
