Will anything knew come out before next fall

Jan 19, 2005 11:40PM PST

My old laptop died and I need to buy a new one. I am starting school in the fall. Does it make sense to wait until then (will there be anything new/ special on the market). I also would like to know which brand is considered the most durable

Yes, but "durable"?

When I read that word, I see images of the laptop being subjected to abuse. If this is so, you have to get the TOUGHBOOK.

Most laptops get at least 3 years. If that's not long enough, you need to look at a desktop unit.

Sonoma was out yesterday, Athlon 64 Turion in mid 2005

The new Pentium M (Centrino) revision 3 -- dubbed Sonoma -- just came out yesterday -- so far only the Dell 6000 notebook has the new specs from what I have seen.

Read the article about Sonoma on the Cnet site and it was posted here yesterday.

Also, the Athlon 64 is issuing the low voltage Turion cpus sometime in mid 2005

The Pentium 4M is basically not going to be improved much as it is 32 bit and not energy efficient like the Pentium and the new Turion Athlon 64 will be.

64 bit Microsoft Longhorn (new operating system replacing XP) is coming in 2006 or 2007 ........
