Will an Opteron be better than a Phenom on 64 bit Win 7

I am aware of the Intel CPUs however before I decide I want to find the answer to my question and that is not available on Toms hardware and no matter what expressions I use in Google search I can find no site that will explain to me the advantage /disadvantage or even the difference between the way the CPUs are designed to work.
Im really after facts rather than feelings Confused
Thanks anyway
