Question

Will a FlashDrive slowdown if you dont keep 25% of it empty?

Sep 9, 2015 3:26PM PDT

My friend told me along time ago that solid state drives have to be kept 25% empty in order for them to operate at their quickest. I just got a brand new USB 3.0 flash drive and want it to work its fastest.

That's news to me. HOWEVER.

The speed impact of having a few thousand files in a folder is pretty well known. The drive could have 10% used but the 20,000 files in a folder would make it feel like the drag chute and anchors were deployed.

Answer
not really

actually, that doesn't matter so much. The read and write speed is not decided by the size of free space. If you make the SSD aligned to 4K sectors, then you may get faster speed, which is also do good to the life span of SSD
