Question

WiFi/Lan port problem

Hello, I've bought a new laptop MSI 14" GS43VR Phantom Pro model.
I'm having a problem with my WiFi and Lan port.
When I turn on the Laptop and my WiFi is on (by default) while I put the Ethernet cable inside the Lan port the Laptop should prefer the wired Ethernet on the WiFi, unfortunately it doesn't work that way; The WiFi stays on while the cable doesn't been recognized by the Laptop.
In order to fix this I need to troubleshoot the internet by right clicking on the WiFi logo, I'm getting a suggestion by Windows to plug in the cable and then I re-plug it, clicking "Check if the problem has been fixed" and only then it's been fixed. My guess is that something with the drivers is wrong.
English isn't my native tongue so hopefully I explained the problem good enough, Thanks a head of time!

You should connect and use what you want. Computers are not smart enough to do this for you.

maybe i need to re-explain

In reply to: I disagree.

Even if i'm reconnect the cable neither putting the cable inside while the Laptop is opening, i'm getting WiFi instead of Wired Internet. only after I'm turning off WiFi and then using Windows Troubleshooting and re-plug the cable only then i'm getting the Internet.

Explained just fine.

Here I have to tap the WiFi off if I want to be sure it's using the Ethernet.

Also I can royally mess up Windows networking and other OSes if I hard assign IP numbers on a hardware interface.

Remember you are not dealing with a new thing here. Windows is decades old and some areas we still have to take control.

Windows Auto Pilot is something that may happen in a few years?

PS. About the changeover.

In reply to: maybe i need to re-explain

Yes, you turn off WiFi but since there is a routing table in Windows it may not refresh for quite some time. You either reboot, use the Windows Troubleshooting or one of the many Net Winsock Restart commands.

Again, this is how Windows is today. Some want it to be more automatic.

Answer
Install Ethernet driver.

Problem explained well enough for us to understand
In general when you connect an Ethernet cable into your laptop, it does not decide which connection to use. You get to decide which connection is preferable
When you plug in the Ethernet cable go to
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center, which displays all possible connections, whether being used or not. If Ethernet cable is plugged in but its not on the list you will have to plug it in and out, if there is no reaction from the laptop you will need to install the Ethernet Driver. Once installed, see the Ethernet as part of the list, then you can use it.
