Skipping past that I use WiFi Analyzer on my Android phone to check out my WiFi around the house for coverage and interference. I also have found a few routers out on channel 14 which here will cause drops like you noted.

For now, drop the distance from router to laptop to half what it is and see if the situation improves.
Be sure the router firmware is the latest.
