? WiFi Connection

Sep 13, 2017 1:39AM PDT

Using: Lenovo G585; W10; Firefox 55; Neighbour's WiFi - with permission! Listening, most of the time, to internet jazz radio programmes. WiFi signal strength usually shows about 2 "clicks" out of a possible 5 on the visual scale. Also D-Link N300 Nano USB Adapter, to enhance the signal (!!!)

Firefox homepage is my yahoo inbox. I check out the emails there, before attending to them, then check my Gmail inbox.

When in Yahoo, I frequently get a No Internet notice, and yahoo will not respond, but all this time I can use my Gmail and hear the radio.

I also frequently get a No Responding notice from Firefox, when this happens, nothing works.

I frequently have to re-start the laptop as it will no longer obtain internet.

I frequently also do malware scans using AVG Free, Malwarebytes free, Toolwiz Care, and sometimes CCleaner and PC Decrapifier.
There are never any serious problems noted in the scans.

I am not at all techniocal, but it is my opinion that the weak WiFi signal is the probable cause. On occasions I take the laptop to a local bar to use their WiFi and I don't get problems.

The last, and most annoying "problem" is that at least twice or three times a week Yahoo throws up a notice telling me that this is the first trime they have seen me log in at this location - which I use permanently - and I then have to go through the process of signing in by getting a Validation code sent to my Gmail address, time-consuming and very irritating.

I cannot contact Yahoo - their technicians are "invisible" and "uncontactable" and so my only recourse is to "Contact the Community" which is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike - there is never an answer!

If there is anyone with any suggestions other than to 'continue as is' I would be grateful to do some learning - but I fear there is no solution!

Regards,

Colin.

Could be the WIFI Channel

I would say ask your Neighbor to change the channel on the wifi router. Usually the routers are set to the default of 6. Instead have him try any other number from 1 to 11. You may have to tweak the settings on your own adapter software as well.

May be it due to the default add-ons on our browser when we install a new app or software. Take a look at your installed plug in and settings, you will definitely find some fault.

?WiFi Connection/cxound be../ add-ons...

Hello topcomputerguy and Esferasoft,

Thanks for your replies.

I asked our neighbour about changing the WiFi channel on his router and he will speak to his daughter who appears to be the “tech” wizzard in his house! With regard to tweaking the settings on my adapter software, that is another issue, but I will try to find out how this is done if it proves necessary after the channel change.

Regarding my Add-Ons etc, I only have 3, - AdblockPlus; Element Hiding Helper for AdblockPlus, and lastly, Ghostery.

I checked the Network Status settings and the named connection for my neighbour was showing as ‘Connected/Enabled’ but the connection with my D-Link adapter was showing as ‘not connected.’ I have now corrected this and the link is now showing as ‘connected/enabled’ also.
I then ran the Network Troubleshooter, and it showed that all was well.

Time will tell if this solves my problem!

Thank you both,

Regards,

Colin.
