Question

WIFI connected but no Internet

Aug 29, 2016 8:22PM PDT

Hello everyone, so the other day my PC unexpectedly shut down and been giving connectivity issues since.
Currently, I can connect to my WIFI router, gain an IP address. however I am getting no internet access.
I have a virtual machine running on the PC, with windows XP, and this machine does have full internet access.

Problems and resolutions so far:
Windows firewall and security manager were corrupted and various services did not start however all are up now.
I reset the TCPIP stack via command prompt.
I reinstalled Wifi drivers.
I ran the sfc and chkdisk commands. Check disk resolved some issues.
I did a traceroute and i hit my router, after there is a request timeout then it goes to a few addresses before stopping.

I'm lost now as everything seems to be up, just I am unable to browse. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

So next up is the old date/time issue. There so little detail that I can't tell you much else other than the usual. As to AVG, did you use their removal tool?

what other details do you need? and what date time issue are u referring to?

Simple.

If the date and time is too far off, you see troubles. It's a basic thing so I'm beginning to worry when I mention date and time and folk ask me more.

There's so little about your host OS, PC that we are stuck with "it doesn't work."

At that point you have to tell folk to system restore to when it worked or factory reset. It's not a matter of telling this or that, consider what you use to work such issues.

well...

well the date / time on my machine is correctly set.
Regarding-
"There's so little about your host OS, PC that we are stuck with "it doesn't work.""

Its win7 sp1. As to other specifics, dude, just ask..... sigh, and system restore doesnt have any restore points to fall back on, it seems it was corrupted and lost all points.

And that is a clue that something is brokn.

Try running SPECCY and see what is missing on updates.
Also, use GRIF's advice and be sure it's clean.

http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/how-to-remove-pup-option-603542/#post-f742c795-5881-433b-a29b-6d758efe5cd3

If you don't feel like reading the SPECCY, just post it like this:
https://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web

Be sure to try SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

I've run into folk that want me to tell them what to post. I've found issues with so many areas given a minimal of clues and sometimes never found it given every clue. When I see it all, and it's still brokn then it must be a really banged up OS and we move to the nuclear option.

It's not like Microsoft has given us the rather nice new install the OS and leave the user files and apps like we have in W10 for W7. W7 is from the Jurassic era where men were men and the OS was hammered into place. This is no joke!

A few things.

I see what looks like 2 CD/DVD emulators I'd remove those for now.

The network looks OK in that speccy. As in should work.

Bummer. Run the scans Grif notes again.

Be sure your WiFi connection is to your router.

New error details
Sep 3, 2016 2:18PM PDT

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I double checked the last set of suggestions but to no avail. I did however, look at the system event viewer to try to find any clues. I did notice something interesting

Additional Data: Error Value: 14. I have 1 "Critical" error for Task Scheduler whereby get the following details:
"Task Scheduler service has encountered RPC initialization error in "RpcServerUseProtseq:ncacn_ip_tcp"

Upon some research I checked windows disk degrag and system restore and these are not working and Im pretty sure its because of this. I also think this is related to the Wifi problem. Mayby DNS or something??
