Question

wifi card compatibility for laptop?

Apr 16, 2018 9:05AM PDT

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade the Wifi card in my Asus S400CA latop because the current one does not support 5Ghz.

How can I check what wifi card is compatible?
If I can get a card that supports AC as well, that'd be great.

Any recommendations?
How can I look for compatible wifi cards?

Thanks

You won't (I didn't) find any lists out there. You should order with say Amazon Prime so you can return it if the new card is blocked by the BIOS. There are USB 5GHz AC adapters that work without that issue.

Remember there's reasons for and against 5GHz. For - could be faster. Against - reduced range.

No 5GHz antenna in the laptop. This is why I'm going to advise you go wtih some USB WiFi.

I did not realize the antennas were different. I thought it was just about the card itself.
Thanks for the tip.

Be missing an antenna for the new card. How adventurous are you?
