Question

Wifi calling on older Android

Apr 20, 2017 8:17AM PDT

I live in an area where I do not have cell service. I rarely use my older cell phone, a Galaxy 3 due to this. Is there an app or a way to make wifi calling/ text using my cell phone number? I have been looking, and it seems that most apps want to use a new number, and I do not want to buy a new phone.
Thanks Happy RMR

I'm going with no.

Try WhatsApp and Google Voice. To transfer your number to Google Voice is on the web so I won't duplicate the web here. My brother uses Google Voice almost all the time.

Research call forwarding to your Google Voice number.

What would a new phone be required?

You didn't say.

A lot of the new phones are wifi calling ready. As little as I use mine, I don't want to invest in one for this reason. And I admit, I am not cell tech savvy.

Get a $20-30 newer wifi capable phone from TracFone or at Walmart. I use a Tracfone with the Magic Jack app on it for wifi calling.

Only slight clues here.

I think you want the phone to do WiFi calling WITHOUT USING AN APP. I think you want it BUILT IN.

For that you would have to get a phone that had that.

Me? I'd install Google's calling app, Whatsapp and such.
