Wierd squiggly text in Safari?

Hello,

I've got a MacBook Pro for work, and I love the thing. Only problem is that the text on many web pages comes up as squiggly jumbled garbage in safari. If you look real close, the squiggles look like a bunch of overlapped numbers. Why is that? Can I fix it?

The strange part is that at my previous job, I had an emac with an earlier version of OSX, but it never had this problem. Now I've got this new machine (and the same thing happens on my co-worker's G5), and I can't avoid the problem in Safari. I've switched entirely to Firefox, which does not have this proble,

you could supply a few URL's so that we could go and look at the pages ourselves.

It's not that we don't believe you, it's just difficult to make a decision based on hearsay evidence.
