You can visit Windows Update from Internet Explorer>Tools>Windows Update.

Or do you mean 'add remove Windows components' in Control Panel>Add/remove? That's something else. What exactly do you want to do?

And can you explain "My computer icons do not include the security icon". What exactly are you missing where exactly?

Yes. The add remove windows component does not respond in my control panel. There should be a security icon in the control panel. It is not there.

Administrative rights?

My first guess is, your not logged in with administrator rights. Do you know what your permissions are in the profile you're logged into?

My computer just comes up ready to go. There really isn't a user profile.

I've been talking to a friend and we have decided that my son has deleted my administrative account!! How do I get it back?

In Windows XP, there's the 'secret' administrator account, that you can only see and enter in Safe Mode. By default it has no password. Worth a try.

Then make a new account with administrator rights, give it a password, don't tell it to your son and make sure he can only access a 'limited' user account.

Cannot open user accounts
Feb 12, 2009 5:53AM PST

When I click on anything in User Accounts I get a pop up that says Windows cannot open User Accounts Control Panel. That goes for everything in User Accounts. I can't even add a new user. If I try to switch User's, there is only one user on the computer and that is my son.

As Kees Suggested

Try entering Safe Mode, normally tapping the F8 key on bootup. Once in Safe Mode, you should be able to create a new user account- hopefully, the Administrator account is password protected.

Typo..

I meant to say, hopefully the account ISN'T password protected. Sorry, it's been awhile since I've posted anything in the forums, and I don't see an edit key...
