Question

Wi-Fi issues

Apr 24, 2019 2:13PM PDT

I have a kindle fire 7, a nintendo switch, a newer android phone, and an old desktop with an inexpensive USB wifi adapter.

I have wifi where I am, but only the phone and kindle receive it well. If I tether the phone to the computer w/ usb or use its hotspot (for the switch or computer - from phone) it works.

Is there something I can get to take the wifi signal and send it out in a compatible way, or a wifi to ethernet receiver that will definitely work?

Clarification Request
Are there issues that need to be resolved such as
Apr 24, 2019 3:14PM PDT

1. How far is it to the devices that don't work well?
2. Is the router firmware current?
3. What's different about your WiFi setup?
Example: I still encounter folk that hide the SSID and that can cause odd issues.

4. Some folk don't own their Internet connection. Please folk, don't hide the details. Unless told otherwise I take it you are in the 90+% with an ISP etc.

Explanation
Apr 25, 2019 12:20PM PDT

1. All the devices are far away, but just as far away, from the router
2. The router firmware is probably not current, but I do not have access to it.
3. The USB wifi in my computer is https://amzn.to/2DCv03L (LOTEKOO 150Mbps USB WiFi Adapter), with a Dell Optiplex Windows 7. The others are a Nintendo switch, a Kindle Fire 7, and a Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3. The phone and kindle get access

4. The phone service is mine. I want the wifi though, which belongs to the facility I'm in (I am permitted/encouraged to use it).

The phone attached to wifi can tether to the computer. I can't just use the tether all the time, or the hotspot for the switch.

Not much I can do here.

It's up to the facility to correct their WiFi issues.

1. You will find with more experience that some devices do better than others at distance. This is not a WiFi flaw but how things work in real life.
2. Definitely a facility issue. They may need to put an access point in your area.
