Question

Why Won't My Asus G74Sx Turn On? - Unresolved!

Sep 3, 2015 3:20PM PDT

When I say working fine, I suppose that's not entirely true. My boyfriend slammed the lid down on my ROG Asus G74x and when I turned it off, INITIALLY (keyword! Not the current problem!) it wouldn't boot anymore. Initially, the screen worked, booting didn't. I replaced the hard drive, and that solved it. (Wiping the disk did nothing so I assumed it was a hardware issue.) So I re-installed Windows, tralala, a few hours later, the screen just goes black and the computer seemingly dies. It won't turn on anymore.

I tried removing and replacing the RAMs one at a time, didn't turn on. I removed the keyboard and checked to see if the wires and such were all in place or that nothing came loose (what do I know? Maybe I'd get lucky, easy fix.) But yeah, no, still not starting.

Is there some issue that this clearly portrays to someone out there? Some obvious reason for this? It was working fine, I was on the internet, etc, after buying a new hard drive when the screen went dead. (Also, he didn't slam it that hard. And the place he put the most pressure would have been the middle of the bottom by the touchpad. The screen was fine. I don't see how that little trauma made my computer die permanently.)

Stubborn and willing to learn, teach me stuff, peoples. Happy

Answer
this is just screen related?

fan still runs, but video disappears? Shine a flashlight or any strong light at the screen when it's supposedly booted up and see if you can see any image there. If so, then likely the backlighting was damaged in the slam down.

Slams and drops. Bad news for laptops and other gear.
