Why won't hyperlinks open from my programs on my pc?

I'm running windows XP Home Edition....the problem is when i click on any link from a progarm downloaded on my pc it won't go to the internet...it goes to a blank page...example...when i try and check my e-mail from yahoo messenger it goes to a blank page i have to go to yahoo and check it from there... and now if i click on profiles from yahoo messenger it says it can't find it....on any programs i click on help topic from the program it goes to a blank page. I run zonealarm and this morning an update was availibe and when i clicked on it ,it took me to a blank page so i did not get the update. Now i am at a blank PLEASE help me figure this out.

The article [Q823301] states that when using Microsoft Outlook Express and in Microsoft Word, hyperlinks appear in underlined blue text, but when clicked, nothing may occur. Please review the steps in this article to reregister files suggested before doing anything else.

Thanks for the help ,but i'm sorry to say that it did not work Sad .i even tried uninstalling the programs and reinstalling them. Any other ideas? Thanks for anything....Cynthia
