Why windows 7 shows a blue screen on device unplugging?

Jan 2, 2010 1:23AM PST

That's a worst problem I am facing. Whenever I plug some device like external ethernet card out of my PC (without safe removal), it gives me a blue screen. In windows XP, such thing didn't happen.

If someone has a solution, please share. Thank you.

Check with the machine's maker.

While I've tracked this down to BIOS and drivers the problem is usually that the machine's maker forgot to update one or the other.

Your post didn't tell much so I start with the usual.

I have a WiMAX device which I use with one of the USB port of my laptop. Previously, when I was using Windows XP, sometimes I used to unplug the WiMAX device without removing it safely. In that case, I got no error but as soon as I upgraded to Windows 7, whenever I unplg the device without safely removing it, I get a blue screen.

I have asked this question because sometimes the device won't unplug safely saying "Device cannot be removed at this time", so in this case I have to manually unplug the device without safely removing it.

I'm sticking with the original advice.
