Why this site is not on the Main Forums page?

Oct 21, 2004 12:26PM PDT

I did some search for a topic and suddently I found this site (CNET Experts Online) http://reviews.cnet.com/5204-7809-0.html?forumID=75 Most question are replied by Herb Chong (One of my favorite moderator 8 years ago) with a red "M" next to his name and his name is not listed on the Forum moderator?

Hi Frank,

You have a good question. I'm also wondering how anyone can initially find the 'CNet Experts on Line' forum to make a post. Earlier today I did a search of CNet and could not find a reference mention in CNets home page or Site Map.

The last time it was mentioned on this forum, Tammy (ithaki) said, "it's like looking for Easter Eggs".

If you remember, after the change of Mods position to voluntary, most former mods (Alfred P., Herb C., Tony T., Christ F., James Mc., and more) left.

Few days ago when I bump to CNet Expert Online I saw Herb name with a red "M" (even his name is not listed on the "Meet Our Moderators" link). So I just wondering, that's all.

No biggy!

Accidentally, I found a reference about that Forum 4 years ago and asked Chris Faust how to be able to access it (because I was curious about its content and other details).

He answered in Test (previous Forum software) and said that Forum was established long time ago and was bound to what's called now CNET Advantage. He didn't disclose how to access that Forum, just suggested that it was accessible. Later, I found myself that it was under Search Forums page in the drop-down list. It was a relatively low traffic Forum compared with those in Community and supervised by the same Mod as today.

So, that Forum is part of another channel. Similar with the previous Forum Software/server it's hosted now by the same Forum software / server besides the free Community Forums.

Frank,

If you go to Advanced Search:

http://cma.zdnet.com/texis/forums/ and click the arrow in the "Forum" box you can find these two listed:

CNet Experts on Line
Tech Experts

What still puzzles me is how people find out about these forums in order to post.
Was going to ask Mr. Wallander, but noticed he just started posting in those forums since this thread originated.

Cetin shedded some light, but wonder if Dr. Henry Lee could shed some light on this mystery...remember he helped on the O.J. trial. Wink

To answer your questions ?
Oct 31, 2004 2:33AM PST

Frank,

1. Yes, on the Main Forums page there is no link to that Forum. Why should be there because it's not part of the Free Community Forums ?

2. Why should be the Mod name there (Free Community Forums) ? He's the Mod for the CNET Advantage's Forums.

3. Of course that you can post there. I think that no one checks out that a poster is coming by clicking the links via CNET Advantage pages or from let's say the http://www.help.com page (bottom right Experts Online link).

Cetin

These are secret forums, just kidding
Nov 4, 2004 1:56AM PST

sorry Frank I really didn't even see this thread till now.

A quick clarification:

CNET Experts online is just a public forum for the front door of Help.com --it's kind of hidden now, but the intention a long time a go was to entice people to check out help.com. I will probably point to this particular forum from the forum directory. And yes Herb is the moderator for that forum.

We also have the Tech Experts forum which is for Advantage members only, it is hidden from the public, but accessible if you know how to get to it.

Hope this clarify thing a bit.

Thanks,
-Lee

Thank you Lee...

I just wondering and thinking may be that forum was unintentional missing from the forum directory. That's all.

You said "...I will probably point to this particular forum from the forum directory. And yes Herb is the moderator for that forum..." When you do, I would suggest you to add Herb's name into the "Meet The Moderators" page also.
