One of the biggest reasons there is no widespread acceptance of WiMAX is the lack of frequency availability. One of the proposed freq. spectrum's fell within the current the satellite C-band.
The idea was to reallocate the lower C-band for WiMAX microwave communication, but this turned out rather disastrous. Terrestrial microwave systems can be so powerful that they easily overpower satellite receivers.
In 2006, Bolivia rolled out a test WiMAX system during the World Cup. The test shut down about 30% of households receiving coverage through satellite. The outcry put an end to WiMAX tests in that area.
Perhaps the 700MHz spectrum would be a place to WiMAX to operate, we can only wait and see.
