Why the "low poll numbers"......

May 18, 2006 12:31PM PDT

Why the low poll numbers ???.Here's my opinion.

As background,

Ref (1): No one person is gifted with the expertise to personally properly address every problem confronting this Nation and its citizenry;

Ref (2): Selecting and appointing ?staff? must be focused on the ?subject matter? of an office or agency, and related real work experience of the individual;

Ref (3): Reasonable and necessary oversight can be achieved without micro-management;

Ref (4): A basic proposition of leadership, ?You can always delegate authority, but you can never delegate responsibility.

IMO, President Bush fully accepts Ref (1) as it applies to himself, but has failed to take advantage and benefit from such recognition during Ref (2) activity. Nepotism has been alive and well evidenced by his personal appointments of personal and political acquaintances. These kinds of appointments tend to surround one with ?yes men?, a recipe for a troublesome administration. He failed with respect to Ref (3) by tolerating disregard of Ref (2) by those he appointed, when they made similar preferential appointments, and when they failed Ref (3). He failed to observe Ref (4), with respect to Ref (2) and Ref (3), which accounts for his ?poll numbers? today.

Only history, written by the next couple of generational historians, will judge if or not his presidency was a failure.

job of the president has changed in the perception of Americans. The basic functions presided over by the first administrators have developed into a job of babysitting every component of every citizen that affects that person's "right" to the pursuit of happiness...and anything less than the 100% achievement of happiness is considered a failure that can be blamed on the president of ones own choice...past, present or future. Add one more item to the list of things from which there is no escape besides death and taxes and that is listening to daily gripes.

Low poll numbers are a good thing

It is not the President's job to make popular decisions. A bad President worries about the polls, a good one ignores them. That doesn't necessarily imply that Bush is a good President because he is only mediocre. At least he's not making decisions based on his poll numbers though.

I don't think he is mediocre.

If he were, most of the presidents we've had would be mediocre or worse.

Perception = Reality
May 22, 2006 6:29AM PDT

Most people have certain perceptions. To them that is their reality. That 'reality' is what polls are reflecting, wrong or right.

1 Dubai
2 Katrina
3 War
4 Illegal aliens
5 Gas prices

All of these are "Bush's fault".

Dubai was a routine matter handled by cabinet members and other pertinent authorities. Such deals happen all the time. The president trusts his appointees as well as the system, which is why he immediately supported it, and which was perceived by an emotional public with a knee-jerk reaction rather than an a thoughtful one.

Katrina was hanldled much better than what the public perception was, insofar as the government end of it goes. The system has since been tweaked on all levels of government.

The war on terror has no end in sight. Again, this is Bush's fault for getting us into it. Terrorists are inten not only in destabilizing the ME, but to attack us on our home soil.

Illegal aliens are a problem that the Congress and Senate should have taken care of long ago. They haven't. Perception: This is Bush's fault.

Gas prices. Due to Katrina and the increased demand for oil, gas prices have spiked. This, according to the public, is Bush's fault, and is why pollsters ask the question when determining his poll numbers. Of course, there is very little he can do, aside from what he has done already.

You can say that responsibility stops at his desk all you want, but it is the public perception that determines any president's ratings.
