Question

Why the change in Mac Book Pro boot time after SSD install?

Apr 25, 2012 2:02AM PDT

I just installed a Samsung SSD on my Mac Book Pro (latest version) because I read that the SSD makes booting faster. However, before the SSD, my MBP boot time was 30 seconds and now with the SSD it's 45 seconds. It 's a brand new laptop and so I don't have much software installed yet. Can anyone explain why it takes this long? Is it really better to use a SSD versus a HDD? Thanks

Problem solved!

To answer your question, No, I did not see these answers on this site. When I went onto Apple's discussion site yesterday, it was to learn if it was worth it to install a SSD on a MacBook Pro and how to go about it. I failed to go back to that discussion site once I encountered the problem after the install. I googled my question and CNET appeared on the results, and the rest followed...

Anyway, thank you for that link. It returned several discussion threads on Apple's forum. After a few clicks, I was able to zero in on a post describing an identical problem as mine. I followed the suggestion given by one reader and now, it takes my laptop 15 seconds to reboot!

Thanks for your help!

That's as good as we can expect.

With each year I'm seeing our computers careen more and more toward "appliances" and "no user serviceable parts inside."

Glad you cracked it.
