Yeap, only the NY Post, only the city that was the focus of the hatred
Apr 13, 2004 3:29PM PDT

only the city that suffered to wake us all up,

only the people that died because America was too smug and never believed anyone would attack us at home,

only the orphans, widows, widowers and their dead that paid the price for our weakness and irresoluteness after the Cole, embassy bombings, threats around the world,

only the home city of the people that truly understand the horror of the fact that the terrorists wish to kill all of us, no matter what we do or say, fight or applease them, they still want us to die.

Yeap, as you said, only the Post. And though I'm sure you're mistaken about the author's age, if it was a teenage, at least we have some young upcoming adults that may give the country a hope for the future.

Permission to dismount your high horse granted.

I grew up in the shadow of NYC and know too well the suffering of that day and suffering of those who survive. This is from a NYC paper, so I'm sure you'll defend every word of it. That is, since you seem to ascribe so much weight to the zip code of a paper's editorial address.

On the other hand, the Post editorial was childish and poorly written. We've both seen much better delivered on this forum.

They may start to accuse you for being among those who cheered when the towers came down... Wink

Sorry, I don' ride horses, too much sympathy for the animals back.

I'm sure you know NYC better than I if grew up there. May I ask when you left?

Anyway we both know you can find editorials anywhere that we like or dislike, even both in the same paper different days or even different columns.

The editorial was childish? I'd consider it a bit more aggressive than things might should be, but I suspect that your insult that it was written by a teenager as much because you disagree strongly with it and anything near it's position than it's writing.

As far as last night's press conference, I was at work, and to be honest, I forgot about it. From what I've heard so far, it wasn't a sterling performance, even by those that support him.

I've never unquestionable supported everything done by this administration. I don't believe I condemn every day of the last either.

And you'll find many that are better informed and keep up better than me are much the same I think. It's all too often the lessor of two evils rather than the best we choose.

Horses are beautiful animals, why would I torture one by inflicting my oversized @## on it?

I will say so far I've supported this administration overall, though I've had doubts about some things. I don't like some of what I've read about the Patroit act, and even less about some of the proposals in the second version. Balencing security and rights is always difficult and even more so now.

I tend to think we swing back and forth Democratic and Republican administrations not so much picking the best man, but to mitigate the damage done by each party dragging things too far their way.

I've said before and I'll say again. I don't really consider it a good thing that one party control both houses of Congress and the Presidency. That doesn't mean I'll choose my vote for any position just on which is in power at the time. It's just a vague unrest at too much power belonging to either.

But your post about the teenage article struck me as condesending and insulting to NY because you disagreed politically with the article. Perhaps I'm the only one that did, since no one else replied so far, either in support or disagreement.

Let me clarify
Apr 14, 2004 1:55AM PDT

As much as it is a valid target for both great praise and great insult, NYC was not my target.

Some people say that the Post does a good job with sports. That and its fish-wrapping properties are the only good things to say about the paper.

Dan

PS: I grew up in a NJ suburb of NYC. We moved an hour south so we could buy a house. We usually just go to the City for Yankee games now.

NYC was not my target

And IMO, neither was the style of the editorial, but it's content. I suspect your appraisal of childish was for the content and positions more than for the writing.

I'll confess I never read the NY Post. But fishwrapping well is more even than some papers can claim. Wink
