Why should I hook up my Video cable to my HTIB ?

Jul 27, 2005 12:14AM PDT

I just bought a Sony HTIB, and the instructions call for me to hook up my Video cable to the receiver.

My DVD uses Component cables directly to the TV, so this would require me to use another RCA cable to connect the DVD player to the HTIB receiver.

I've tried the HTIB both with and without a Video connection to the DVD player, and it seems to work fine both ways.

So why do the instructions tell me to hook up the Video as well?

With all the different cables that you can use, you do need to be specific about the cable that you are talking about.
You didn't give any info on your reciver. dose it have component plugs on it??
For best picture quality you need to use the component cable from the DVD player to the TV. A lot depends on the reciver you have and what kind of plugs it has. John

Sorry about being vague

Ok, the system I am talking about is a Sony HTDDW870 6.1 Home Theatre in a Box. I does not have an integrated DVD player.

Presently, my DVD player is hooked up via Component Cables to my TV.

I hooked the Audio of my HTIB to my DVD player via the Digital Cable.

In the instructions, it says to hook up the Video Out (or is it Video In, I confuse the two) of my DVD player, to the HTIB Receivers Video In (or Out) via RCA cable (the yellow one). It also suggests connecting my TV's Video port another Video port on the receiver.

My Question: since my DVD player is already hooked up to the TV via Component, what possible reason would I have to make a second video connection to the HTIB receiver? Does it in someway effect the quality of Audio?

I hope that makes sense.

OK, The instructions have you do this to use the reciver for video switching. The downside is that it only uses composit video and NOT componet video. You can run the video cable if you want to, it will not affect the audio.
But KEEP you useing your componet cable to the TV for best picture quality. John
