Question

Why proprietary usb port Samsung Galaxy S5

Sep 18, 2015 11:12PM PDT

I just was about to buy an S5 and was told that I had to use the charger that came with it and was not supposed to use a regular usb cable or charger. Was this an experiment for only this model? What's the story with it?

I don't think so.

All phone manufacturers recommend you use their own proprietary chargers.

If you want to use other methods to charge your phone they will say you "do so at your own risk".

As far as I know, across the board - tablets, phones, bluetooth speakers, mp3 players...can all take any 5V usb charger whether 2.0, 3.0. Samsung apparently went back to the regular usb port on the next model.
