Question

Why Isn't My HP DeskJet 2050 Reponding to Print Orders?

Mar 23, 2017 9:58AM PDT

Hi. I had the printer up and running until 2 days ago, then had it down due to unexpected trouble with the cartridge circuitry which brought me uninstalling the whole thing, unplugging it, taking it to the lab where they recovered my printer by replacing the cartridge with a new one and now back home - reinstalled, re-plugged everything and seeing the printer is well-identified by the comp, am attempting to send prints to it and it won't response, with the Devices and Printers's "What's Printing" line empty, totally blank! And now, so very strangely when I disconnect the data cord from the printer's back, and order a print from the comp, the print order is now there in the "What's Printing" line!! Of course, it wont actually process any printing... - i.e. when I connect the cord back, that line disappears, suggesting the document is being "printed".... What the Hecks!! There is paper, there is (new) ink, there's everything, and no error message whatsoever. Help Sad
Many Thanks!!!

Clarification Request
"they recovered my printer"

In the workshop, did they actually test your printer, and did it work there?

Did you ever use third-party cartridges and/or refills? If so, the print head may be gone.

Answer
Here, We Uninstall, Then Reinstall The Printer.... Or...
Mar 23, 2017 4:58PM PDT

.. in some cases, you can change the items listed below:

First, click on Start-Run, type: "services.msc", then press the “Enter” key.. Scroll down to and set the "Print Spooler" service to "Automatic" and "Start" it.. Maybe multiple times till it sticks.

Next, what has worked for me, is to delete the contents of the following folders(NOT the folders themselves), then restart the computer.:

C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Once done, you may not have to reinstall the printers. Try disconnecting the local printer (unplugged the USB cable), wait a few seconds, and then reconnect it. If that doesn’t fix the issue, you may need to reinstall the printers. Also, be sure to check the settings in the “services.msc” again, just to be sure it’s still set to “Automatic” and the service is started

Hope this helps.

Where's my Run
Mar 24, 2017 3:33AM PDT

Hey there thanks a lot, sorry for being that one "blonde" but ... where is my Run? Clicking the Start, no Run field shows... (It's a 7 here) There must be some other access to Run. Thanks again

Ooooh I somehow hit the Run command right
Mar 24, 2017 3:55AM PDT

- OK, ran into that Services list and once found the Print Spooler line all I see is it is already set as "Status: Started" and "Startup Type: Automatic"; what was I supposed to change here then? Confused (Is there any way to attach screenshot image here with forum posts so I could show you what I see?)

Folder is Empty!
Mar 24, 2017 4:02AM PDT

...And now that there's apparently nothing to alter in the services.msc, I moved to the next step you specified - to only discover that there's nothing to delete at C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS! Folder's empty...
What's wrong with my life LoL? Laugh

Re: empty

Great. It should be empty if there is nothing to print. So it seems all is fine except the printer.

Suggestions:
- Print a test page from the printer when disconnected (if it has such an option).
- Print a test page from the driver when connected (most printer drivers have such an option)
- Let the "lab" try it on another PC/laptop (if you don't have another one available yourself). They might appreciate it if you take your driver installation disc with you.

It might be time for a new printer.

Re: uninstall/reinstall

I don't expect that unistalling/reinstalling the HP software and driver will help. Nothing seems wrong with the software and, moreover, nothing in your story says you changed anything in Windows.

For me, it looks like a hardware issue with the printer.

Re: hardware issue with the printer

And what if I told you that I can scan FLAWLESSly (and photocopy FLAWLESSly too)? It's only the PC-to-printer data transfer that malfunctions (-while other way around works), and when this is the case, can it really still suggest anything on the hardware's part? Could you please be specific? Thanks

Yo!
Mar 24, 2017 6:45AM PDT

Yo guys! I'm happy! (-: Yes, tried uninstalling-'n-reinstalling it (less than 24 hrs after the same routine was done.. and with a dash of faithlessness following Kees_B's assumption) - and this time it somehow works I'm back printing! Grin No hardware issue apparently. I'm prob left with the question why in the world yesterday's installation ended up as it did (scanning but not pulling prints).. Seemingly things aren't always to be perfectly explained... Probably a shame, as this thread won't be as helpful to others experiencing similar condition as it would have been if there were any discernible logic.. Silly Thankies!! <3

Good job.

Thanks for telling. And glad to see it works.

It's kind of a mystery, but that can happen with computers.
