Let me give it some thought DaleyJones ...

I know these days it's all about going green and I think it is great idea to have a Green Tech forum. However, I do wonder if there is enough interest surrounding this topic to justify creating a forum for it.

You see, creating a forum is simple, but keeping it alive, interesting, and worthwhile for others to participate and visit it is the difficult part.

There are several forums here (even fairly new ones)I'm ready to shut down because, one, they are just spam magnets or two just have no activity in them to justify us to continue maintain them.

Let me give this Green Tech forum some thought. Or better yet, are there any folks here who would like to see this forum exist?

Let's take a vote and tell us what you think.

Thanks,
-Lee

IMO, there isn't enough good science in this area. It's more about marketing. What is "green" is one person's opinion versus another. Examples:

1. A device may use less wattage but have a shorter life or raise disposal questions may not be green.
2. A device may have a longer life, use less power but consume much more in the total manufacturing process.
3. A device may use very little power when operating but be of little use at all.

We have marketing geniuses that have hijacked the desire to be "green" and turned it into green for themselves. We need to be skeptical and very careful before making a purchase based on eco-friendly claims. Thus, I'd think a "green" forum might be of questionable value if we can't guarantee good science rather than just good karma.

Blame Wayne! Devil

He seems to have resurrected it. However, even then, it might not have been Wayne's fault. If we deleted a post here and didn't then lock the thread, the 'date of last post' doesn't update, annoyingly.

A spammer thought this was a good place to recommend his blog, ignoring the part about our excellent team of moderators who delete spam with great passion. Grin

Here's hoping that forum bug is fixed in Phase II of the forum overhaul.
