Why is RAM upgrade still being eaten up ?

Mar 21, 2015 12:41AM PDT

Hi,

I have a simple Packard Bell netbook that I`ve just bought second hand to replace a laptop for my son...it had a 1gb RAM memory and as it was a little slow I upgraded to a 2gb RAM...but when looking at task manager I can see that whereas with the 1gb memory it would maybe be using say, between 60-75 % of memory, now after the 2gb RAM instalment the system is using the same percentage of memory...also notice the CPU being at an extremely high usage although the speed seems to be pretty good now...is the high memory usage to do with Chrome and is there a way of reducing it,please ?

Hope somebody may be able to explain this to me ?

Thanks in advance for replies...as I recall I found it difficult to reply to earlier replies in another question I had asked.

It's simple. Windows uses all RAM, even for trivial things.

And Chrome opted for more RAM use as well to gain speed. Since unused RAM is wasted RAM, even with 16 or 32GB RAM you find it all used when all is working well. The idea of free RAM is something from over a decade ago.

In parting, you need to explore one more thing. Here's a link: http://blog.laptopmag.com/how-to-use-chromes-built-in-task-manager
