Question

Why is my sounds not working when the volume is low?

Sep 26, 2017 7:01AM PDT

So i got a strange thing going on on my Asus n550jv-cn270h. The sound used to be fine. But since a few months there is a problem with my sound(maybe it is related with the fact that I used a driver update program a while ago). So the problem is that when the volume is turned low(like 20 or lower), the sounds is not working. I have to turn it up and when i get it high enough i will get sound. The weirdest thing is even that if i turn it low again while i have my sound back and the sound is still playing, i will have sound even when the volume is low. But as soon as i have no audio on my computer playing for more then 10 seconds, i have to turn the volume up first again to get my sound back.

I am running windwos 10- 64 bit on my Asus n550jv-cn270h. Beside changing my hdd to the samsung 840 evo ssd and putting a new wireless chip into my computer i havent changed any hardware stuff.

Can someone please help me it is getting realy annoying?

- Did you try a driver rollback to the previous version?
- By the way, why did you update the driver?

I dont know how to do that. And the reason was because my touchpad was not working correctly. So i downloaded a program and updated everything it said was out of date. Now my touchpad is working but my sound is not. I am also not realy sure if it is because the driver update. I also downloaded the audio realtek driver of the asus website. For the n550jv there was only one for windows 8. So i donwloaded and installed that one but the problem is still there.

Answer
Rollback failed so what about Asus?

https://www.asus.com/Laptops/N550JV/HelpDesk_Download/ seems to be for your model.

See if there is a driver package for the motherboard chipset to install, The go get the sound drivers.

I don't see any W10 drivers so ask Asus what to use.

Finally there is a chance the machine has failed hardware. I test with Linux OS then consider repair.

RE: asus drivers

I already installed the latest sound driver of the asus webiste even tho it is for windows 8.1, i read on the asus website that i have to use the latstest one they got. Do you mean with "
See if there is a driver package for the motherboard chipset to install" , that i have to preform a bios update? If so i got a question. Currently i use bios version 206. But on the asus website they got a windows 10 version 208. Do i first have to instal version 207 first or can i go directly to 208.

To the linux OS i will try that as last resort because i dont want to delete my windows right at this moment.

Thanks fo your help so far by the way.
