Question

Why is my internet so SLOW???

Jan 4, 2015 4:26AM PST

I have cable internet with Comcast and have a Motorola modem (DOCSIS 3.0) and a Linksys Router (AC1600 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Model No: EA6400) We have a wireless network with 2 laptops and 1 printer. The laptops use Windows 7. The router is new, we bought I in the hopes of speeding up our internet but its actually made I worse. If I connect my laptop directly to the router I get a speed test of 30mbps and wireless runs anywhere from 0.22mbps to 1.92mbps.
With that information I figure it cant be the modem or the laptop, so I would think it would be something to do with the router??? But why, it's a brand new long range router as suggested by Comcast?? They told me my old router was outdated, that one was slow, but the new one is even slower.

Also, what's not stock. I am seeing more reports about wireless shield software.

Lack of knowledge

When it comes to networking al I really know is how to plus the router in and connect it to the modem. My mind goes blank after that and to try and do anything else I would need step by step instructions.

I appreciate your time

Your router manual and find the page about setting the WiFi to 802.11g mode.

It's one setting.

My router didn't come with a manual

That's not unusual.

But for those I hit the maker's web site for a PDF or other manual.
