Question

Why is my CPU glued down in mu Gateway 400VTX laptop?

Jun 9, 2014 12:31AM PDT

I need to upgrade my CPU in my Gateway 400VTX laptop, but it must be glued down, it won't come out after I turn the release screw. How can I remove it?

Ah, a Socket 478.

Those ran very hot back then. Eventually the metals get very attached to each other and usually folk break the socket trying to remove the old CPU. I'm not sure whether to commiserate or watch the train wreck from afar.

In other words, don't do this if you want the laptop to survive.

Takes Bob's advice, don't do it, a train wreck will ensue.
