Why is my computer so slow?

Mar 4, 2005 1:15AM PST

I have a 3.2GHz P4, 2GB RAM, and a 128MB video card, but when I run a game, I need to turn its video settings almost all the way down, or else the game chugs. I don't think that adware or spyware is the problem, because my computer has run slow since the day I got it. Can someone please help me? I don't expect the computer to run flawlessly on a game like Doom 3, but I can't even turn The Sims up to its highest resolution anymore without problems.

If it has always been slow, you should contract the seller to let them know that you have an issue.

I think may be your video card can not afford to many calculate for the game's picture. You should remember, the memory size of the video card doesn't means that you computer can run very rigorous PC game. It depends on your video card's CMOS chip. Also you should care about the Screen wide, if it is too big, it may affect your video card's performance

if your computer's video card uses shared system memory...

if your computer's video card uses shared system memory then there's your reason. I had heard all about it but always thought everyone who knew about it was exaggerating, but having experienced it myself on my toshiba a75-s211 (p4 538 3.2GHz ATI 9100 IGP 128MB), i now know it's true.
