Question

Why is my all in one pc monitor washed out?

Apr 8, 2015 9:19PM PDT

Hi,

I recently came home to find my all in one pc's monitor looks washed out. I thought it was a software issue, but I could still see the issue was there when I restarted the pc.

This looks like a hardware issue. Replacing the screen seems the most likely solution.

Would it be possible to remove the parts (including the motherboard) and put them in a computer tower?

Answer
I've yet to see anyone move this to a tower PC.

I don't see a make and model (possibly Sony Vaio?) but as a test I try Safe Mode and booting other Live OSes from CD/USB/DVD. Some folk won't or can't do that so they are stuck with a repair counter for an estimate.

That should provide an immediate answer to a h/w or s/w based problem. If you find the problem remains after either attempt to see what happens then take action. In most cases, AIO is never adjusted or removed from default setting of display which usually is "high" it becomes overheated controls or components has failed, a mtrbd. repair level fix. Of course, if you hadn't yet enter the control setting(physical knobs) for the screen -OR- OSD(on-screen diags)controls and adjust. If somehow problem its s/w based, recall any prior action before this happened. You can probably use the OS restore feature and return using a return point prior to the problem. IMHO, I think this a h/w issue, so a tech shop repair is likely unless too costly, get another PC. Yes, you can probably fix this if you have the skills and can order whatever part, usually online for your model#.
