Why is it that the Sandisk Sansa e260 restarts itself..

Sep 4, 2006 5:43AM PDT

Why is it that every time I unplug my MP3 player from my computer, a green window pops up automatically on my MP3 player and it says "System Restart" and when it finally loads, another green thing pops up and says "Refreshing Database" and it starts to load for a minute or so. THEN, I can finally use it.

How can this be stopped?

Before this when I unplugged the cord, my MP3 player just goes right back to the main menu. Now it restarts and reloads itself. Why?

When you disconnect the player it looks for new song files and updates its database. This is normal. If you haven't changed any files, perhaps some other process is 'touching' the sansa and causing it to think some files have changed.

Possible Culprit is the Licensing

My experience with the Sansa has been riddled with this type of behavior. From what I can tell it always seems to be related to acquiring a license for the music I have stored on my device. This is even true when all of the music I have is owned by me and not just subscribed to. It looks to me that the Sansa has to do a reset in order to refresh the license state for each song on the device. My guess is that you are seeing the side effects of the Play-4-Sure DRM'd support of the device.

Completely normal

As another person stated, this is normal. When the player is unplugged from the computer (whether anything was changed or not) it will rebuild the database and check for any changes in the files.

If you believe its taking longer than it should, or are experiencing any abnormal behavior, make sure the player has the latest firmware version (01.01.11a).

You can update at this link if you don't have the latest version:
