Question

Why Is Edge Browser Open Even If I haven't Used It?

Aug 13, 2018 8:35PM PDT

We have Windows 10 on a PC and on both of our laptops. We use Chrome browser every day and we rarely, if ever, use the Edge browser included with Windows 10. When we run CCleaner on any of these computers it always tells us that Edge needs to be closed in order to proceed and asks if we want CCleaner to close Edge. We say yes. A few seconds later CCleaner tells us the program (Edge) is not responding and asks if we want it to force Edge to close. We say yes, and CCleaner proceeds with it's cleaning routine.
So, can someone tell me why Edge is apparently running in the background all the time and why it refuses to close?

It doesn't with me, and I can't look into your machine to see why it does. Maybe it's in the list of programs run at startup in Task Manager? Can you end it in Task Manager?

It's because an app I use has a "Web component." I'm going to leave it at that but the app shows web content in a window inside the app which in the past was IE but now is Edge. Sorry, no I can't tell you what app did that but it's a known thing that apps do.
